Spring break fun

Spring break has come and gone once again.  The kids spent most of the week at Nana and Pawpaw's which worked out great since I had to work.  They had a great time at their house and came back on Thursday.  Saturday my mom and I took Caden, Paige, and Sam to Moody Gardens to see the Pirate exhibit they had there.  It was very interesting and Caden was really into it.  Sam did come away a little scared after we saw a display that showed how they punished pirates if they were caught.  If you ask him about it right now he will probably tell you he does not want to be "hooked" like the bad pirates.  Poor guy.  Overall I think he liked it though.  Unfortunately they did not allow any pictures inside the exhibit, but we did get a picture with some "real" pirates.  Lol.
We also went to the aquarium and to see the penguins.  Then we made a trip to Rainforest Cafe on our way home.  It was a long, fun day with lots of treats from Nonny.  A great way to end our spring break for sure.

When I am a Grandpa

Grandparents day was a few weeks ago and Caden's class wrote stories about how they would be when they are grandparents.  I just had to laugh at Caden's.  This is one of the things I will definatly keep for his school memory book.  Here is what it said.

When I am a grandpa I will be crab fishing and playing base/foot ball.  When my grand kids aren't there, I will be exploring the world and collecting valuables for my grand kids.  If I'm not doing that, I will be laying on the couch playing video games and falling asleep when I'm in long conversations with my wife.  Playing with my grand daughter will be my wife's job.  I will live by my parents so they can see their great grand kids.

Not too shabby!  I love to see his view of things at this age.  And in case you can't tell the picture is what he will look like as a grandpa.  He brought to my attention the cross necklace.  Love it!

Open house

Last night was Caden and Paige's open house at school.  They make this a fun day by letting the kids wear their pajamas to school and calling it Pizza and Pajama night.  We were able to go mingle with other students and parents while enjoying some pizza and then headed off to see what the kids have been up to.  On our way to their classrooms I stopped to look at the start students bulletin board and it just so happened my two cuties were up there!

Then it was time to go see all the science fair projects the 2nd graders had been working on.  Caden loves science and was very into his project.  Out first idea failed so last minute we came up with another idea.  He decided to see what would happen to gummy bears when they sat in different solutions overnight.  We had fun setting everything up and making our guesses on what would happen and then finding out what really happened.  I am not sure why they did this in second grade.  To me it seemed more like a 4th or 5th grade project, but I told myself it was probably more about the kids learning the process and going thru the steps.  Although Caden did the leg work I have to admit the final product was mostly me and by the looks of the other projects the other parents did the same.  It was neat to see all the kids excited to see their projects displayed and explaining them.
Then is was on to Paige's class.  She showed us all around and even read some of her stories they have been working on to us.  She wrote one all about mom's and another how to story about how to make chocolate milk.  lol They were super cute.
On our way out we stopped by the book fair and the kids talked us into buying a few books .  I try not to buy books anymore, but it was hard to say no.
We had a great time seeing what the kids have been doing at school.  Only a few months left in the school year!

Gifted and talented x 2!

Well, today Paige also got a letter saying she has been accepted into the gifted and talented program.  Her teacher came up to me after school saying how excited she was for her.  She thinks it will really be good for her to have a more creative outlet and continue to help her overcome her shyness.  Daddy, Caden and I were all thrilled for her.  She is very happy that she will be in the same group as her brother (they group K-2nd together) as well as one of her best friends.  Way to go Paige!  You are really becoming such a big girl and overcoming so many fears this year!  I know you will continue to grow and do great things.  We love you!
